3.4 - Ultrasound Melt Cleanliness Detector
Ilona Kieliba | Nemak
Summary
Ilona Kieliba (Nemak Poland) presented the application of ultrasonic technology to check the purity of molten metals, which was developed from the AMAP project 20. The AloX method enables rapid detection of impurities in the melt. The measuring principle is based on the faster reflection of the ultrasonic signal on particles in the melt compared to a reference plate. The counting pulses can be used to quantify even the smallest impurities, allowing the quality of the melt to be assessed. This in turn allows the degassing parameters to be adjusted. The efficiency gain and reliability of the measurement method is illustrated by the industrial case studies presented.
